...ramblings and music for the enjoyment of God Kevin Sanders: Christian, Husband, Father, Youth Pastor & Worship Leader at NewBranch Community Church in Dacula GA. email me: ksanders[AT]newbranchchurch[DOT]org |

A few days ago I heard a worship leader say, “To a certain degree worship is about entertaining the people in the service.”
Wrong. Dead wrong.
Read this and tell me what part of the presence of God is about your entertainment:
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
(Isaiah 6:1-8 ESV)
If you say that worship is in any sense about entertainment your song is ‘me, me, me’ while the heavenly hosts say ‘Him, Him, Him… Holy, Holy, Holy.’
Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
Words by Walter C. Smith, 1867
Arr. and added chorus by Kevin Sanders
from Songs and Hymns:
Based on I Timothy 1:17, “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever”, “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” reminds us of the awe and reverence that we need to have as we worship our God. Even as we cannot see the sun, we see merely the light reflected by the hot gases surrounding the sun, so God’s glory is hid from our eyes. Even the angels cover their faces in God’s presence (Isaiah 6:2) because they cannot look on God’s full glory.
Lyrics/Chords:
Em D/F# C G
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
Em D/F# C G
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Em D/F# C G
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Em D/F# C
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
G C Em D/F#
There is none like You, There is none like You
Am G/B
Immortal, Invisible, God only wise
C D/F#
We bow down before You we lift up our eyes
C D/F# G
There is none like You
To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish - but naught changeth Thee.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; O help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!
“But do not be cast down,” said Aslan.
“Evil will come of that evil, but it is still a long way off, and I will see to it that the worst falls upon...
